ABOUT ME
A soldier’s daughter, I grew up in different cantonment towns of India and traveled continuously across India in my childhood. Living in different cantonments towns at impressionable ages left me with a finely honed spatial imagination that throws up startling insights in my explorations of space and place. My view of space is inherently gendered.

I am currently Professor at the Department of Geography, Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi. Apart from introducing new courses in the Geography of Gender, I teach postgraduate courses on Geographical Thought , Social Geography of India, Research Methodology and Publication Ethics.

I have served on the international editorial board for Gender, Place and Culture, Social and Cultural Geography, been invited as visiting faculty to the Department of Gender Studies, Lund University, Sweden under the Linnaeus Palme programme, held an Erasmus Mundus fellowship in the same Dept., been invited to deliver talks and keynotes at the Royal Geographical Society and Institute of British Geographers, UK, NTNU Norway, University of Bordeaux, France, University of Iceland, Reykjavik, NIAS And University of Copenhagen, Denmark, University of Groningen, Netherlands, among others.
I currently hold the position of Chair, IGU Commission on Gender and Geography.

I see no contradiction in my role as mother of three active children and hands on feminist geographer.
